Report written by Michal Czekajlo
We have been asked by the York Carers Centre to help with delivery of art packs to unpaid carers. There were 15 packs, each consisting of an A4 envelope with paints and pencils and an A4 art pad and the addresses were nicely dotted across the city, hence the need for a strong team.
We had plenty of time for the task as the packs were available for collection three days before the planned art Zoom session.
On day one Lucy went to Heworth and Osbaldwick with three art packs in her rucksack. On the same day Leanne ran to three adreeses in Clifton, Acomb and on Haxby Road. Meanwhile Michal took his bike for a spin to Skelton and delivered one parcel.
On day two Michael ran in snow and across muddy trails to deliver art materials to two carers in Copmanthorpe and one in Bishopthorpe. Louise opted for a different mode of transport and went to New Earswick and as far as Wigginton to deliver three art packs in total.
The task was finished on day three with Simon delivering on his bike to two addresses on Huntington Road.
Hopefully these art packs will help carers going during this time. They will have some Zoom art sessions, but will also have the opportunity to talk about any issues and offload whilst they paint. This is all crucial as a way of helping them to maintain both their own wellbeing and their caring roles, which in turn takes some of the pressure off health and social care services.
Well done Team!
