Rosie, Sol and Sheila gathered at the community allotment on a warm evening. As Rosie marvelled at the progress that had been made since she was last there, we got on with the watering, giving everything a big drink. Sol volunteered to increase her step count by doing the new plantings on the far side of the car park. Meanwhile we set the hose to fill up the water butts behind the shed. Then Rosie and Sheila tackled the tomatoes which had all gone a bit rogue. Some new, taller canes, and some extensive pruning of the side shoots (once we had worked out where the main stem was!) resulted in a bit more order and will allow the fruit to develop. Rosie took some purple beans home for her tea

The Maidenhead Community Allotment is run by a group of volunteers, who grow food to share with local residents, the users of the Boyn Grove Community and Resource Centre and Maidenhead Foodshare. They work with Men in Sheds, who are based on the same site. Men in Sheds is an initiative to combat loneliness by providing a space for men to connect and chat over practical tasks.
