Winter Robin

Windsor and Maidenhead Report written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

In the last scheduled session this year at the Community Allotment, Rosie and Sheila cleared what was left of the beetroot crop, covered the bed with the last scraping from the compost bin, and covered the bed with plastic. We scavenged waste wood from around the site and used it to hold the plastic in place through whatever storms the winter will bring. All whilst being watched over by our resident robin.

Untangling the Beans

Windsor and Maidenhead Report written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

We unwound the plants from the supports and then untied and gathered the canes together and stored them away for use next year. The plants went on the compost heap. Rosie and Angela picked the Dutch drying beans. The beds are now ready for some manure and putting to bed for the winter - maybe next week's task

No weeds here!

Windsor and Maidenhead Report written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner

Rosie, Rachel and Sheila gathered at the community allotment for our regular session The weather had conveniently done the watering for us, and after admiring the progress with the greenhouse project we got down to doing some serious weeding . The soil was perfect, and the weeds came away easily. Rain stopped play slightly early, but we had cleared 4 beds, and Rosie took some beetroot home for tea
