With a special round of applause for @GGSHEFF 50 good deed veteran SUPER SAM we assembled for our group photo where he took centre stage before we headed of into the night air to this weeks destination of The Real Junk Food Project Sheffield (TRJFPS).

On arrival we were warmly greeted out of the cold November air into the warmth of the warehouse by

  • MARVELOUS MICHELLE
  • JUICY JEN
  • CRISPY CHRIS

TRJFP had plenty of Junk in their trunk, so it was time for a @GGSHEFF pallet cleanse... We were given what has to be one of the best task briefs I have seen using a whiteboard to outline the evenings task which involved shifting pallets and stock into a new easier to manage system for TRJFPS. We also had branches of teams on other tasks including:

  • Sweeping and mopping the Sharehouse Market
  • Organising crates
  • Weighing in intercepted food waste ready for processing

The team really got into the groove with the work and had a crate time of it all!

Following a brief re-fuel we headed back out into the crisp air of the night for our return run which included some great sprint loop and returns and we even had time to fit in some box jumps and hill reps up the dreaded COBBLED KILLER

Back at base and after a stretch and news share we had a chat over a pint re setting some goals for 2018 which everyone did, so make sure you all log them on your account so we can cheer you all on and support everyone along.

Until next time, happy running! :)

The Real Junk Food Project: Sheffield is a non-profit social enterprise that operates using a pay as you feel concept in order to tackle food waste. The aim is to prevent perfectly edible and healthy food from going to landfill whilst promoting the value of food and, more importantly, people. The pay as you feel concept invites people to make a donation or to volunteer their time, skills and/or creativity in exchange for food, allowing people with different circumstances to have equal access to the food that is saved. The organisation collects waste or surplus food from supermarkets and wholesalers, which is then redistributed to their two cafes, their Fuel For School programme and the Sharehouse Market, alongside their catering function and community partnerships. Currently, the project works 6 days a week, saving approximately 3000kg of food from landfill per day (the same weight as two adult hippopotami)!
