Report written by Pennie Varvarides
This week 19 GoodGym-ers ran 1-2km to celebrate GG Haringey's 2nd Birthday!
We were joined by GG newbies: Cara, Niamh and Claire - and Haringey newbie Leila. Give 'em a cheer! Extra cheers for Claire who came up with this week's pun!
Shout out to Paul for hitting his 50th run tonight!
After a quick warm up and intro in front of the leisure centre, we split into two teams. Four people joined Dave – who ran his 100th run this evening – to run to Bruce Grove Youth Centre to finish painting the walls. Everybody else ran with me on around the block to sort the garden out at the library. Sarah was my trusty back-marker, while Chris helped me lead the way.
At the library we split into teams. Patrick kept his team going with some solid tunes, snapping sticks and filling bags, while everyone else pulled the weeds and cleared the ground ready for (hopefully) some lawn.
We soon tidied up and made our way back to the green to return our tools and do some burpees. GG Haringey joined GG Barnet for the 30 Burpee Challenge. Though, I'm not sure I convinced anyone to play along and do 30 burpees a day for 15 days. More burpees = more PBs. Fact. Remember to do them again tomorrow.
When Dave's team got to the green, they did their 30 burpees too while everyone else did some ab work. Then it was time to run back to base for stretching, a beautiful rendition of Happy Birthday To You and some chocolate-filled wafers.
Then most of the group went to the Beehive to properly celebrate our 100th run (while I came home to write this!)
Next week is a mystery.
PS. Check out this local festival – Tottenham Ploughman RiverFest
The centre is a very resourceful place for young people to have fun, socialise and learn new skills from professional, experienced youth workers from a range of different backgrounds, who offer information, support and advice on a range of issues.
