It was a bit of a challenge to cleanup today. Wiping down the numerous piles of boxes and clearing the rubbish barely made a dent in the to do list! A bit of reorganising items back into storage boxes was necessary as everything had been scattered across shelves and in the wrong place.

An extra 30 minutes was needed but thanks to the help of one of the distribution team (who had stayed behind) and an appearance from Henry (the hoover), the majority of jobs were done for another week.

Merton’s Community Fridge is a long-term initiative to tackle food poverty and reduce food waste in the borough. It's essentially a big fridge where fresh surplus food is donated and distributed 3 times a week.

Helping local people in crisis

We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
