Arriving at St George the Martyr Church it was a hive of activity. Volunteers were in the kitchen prepping meals for local families to keep everyone well fed during the school holidays and deliveries were coming in thick and fast through the door.
The Borough Food Cooperative acts as a subsidised supermarket, providing essential supplies to local households who are unable attend the shop in person.
I set off sorting through all of the current fruit and veg, looking to discard anything that had seen better days! The amount and variety of fruit and veg on offer was great to see and I was certainly imagining all of the different recipes you could whip up.
As the next set of volunteers arrived it was time for me to down tools and make my way home in the sunshine! It was a really worthwhile morning supporting a team of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to deliver something special for the local community 👏👏👏
The Borough Food Cooperative opened in October 2020. With help from organisations like FareShare, the Borough Food Cooperative acts as a subsidized supermarket, offering members to stop in and pick up £15-£20 worth of groceries for £4.50. The Cooperative is open during lockdown to provide essential supplies to local households
