Getting there

For this session we're going to meet at the task, so you'll need to make your own way there. We encourage you to walk, run, or cycle to do so!

    About this session

OCA Community Kitchen are a non-profit organization that helps families and those in need by distributing food and vital products near Oval Station.

    https://www.ocacommunitykitchen.com/ for more information.

We really need volunteers to help out over a few 1 hour slots on Saturdays - the team at OCA are there until everyone is served! Please note that the listing is for 12pm but you can come any time from 12-5pm

You can help out for as much or as little as you can and we will have Jose Luis there to support you. Jose Luiz contact: 07492861345

Any Spanish and Portuguese speakers you are most welcome as a large part of the community is from Latin America and being able to communicate clearly is a big help!

There are a large range of tasks available: 1) Breakdown and sorting of products. Review of dates and conditions of the products.

    2) In the case of clothing, classification of sizes and gender.

    3) People who can make a record of people who come in to get your market. I know it is difficult but if it can be bilingual as we receive Spanish speaking people and people who only speak English.

    4) We have 2 payment zones as we have created a logistics similar to a pantry but we have focused on a social supermarket. So people get results at a low cost. The people who are in charge of this section will handle money exchanges.

    5) What has been achieved is to create a model of £5 for 12 items or £10 for 25 items which if there is a high rate of surplus can be achieved at £10 pound.

    6) Also, clothing and basic necessities are sold on a per unit basis which means that the clothing is new and unworn. At the moment we have a lot of surplus non-food items but by Christmas we are doubling our donations considerably so we see that there are no hands.

    7) We need people who can be packing gifts for Christmas for the children who come with their mums and dads and who can be at the events we hold every Saturday.

It's a great cause, great task, get involved.
