Unsure of exactly where to go fortunately just before 11am I saw Jo strolling up the steps at St George the Martyr Church. As we were greeting each other, the main man Adam materialised from around the corner and led us into the area where the Borough Food Cooperative is based.

He gave us a quick tour, explaining all the superb work they do, and showing the bargains that were on offer to those that aren't struggling enough to be in scope for foodbanks but are able to pay a little to get a lot. The delivery service is particularly valuable at the moment as our recipients were unable to leave their homes so it was a real lifeline to have food dropped off at their respective houses.

There were three separate deliveries lined up for the two of us, and all in completely different directions. It just so happened that Jo was heading in the direction of the furthest away so volunteered to take that, whilst I did the two that were closer, albeit one at a time as the recipients were getting a whole lot of food.

As I hadn't come prepared with a backpack like Jo, I was faced with a variety of options for carrying the groceries and opted for the Amazon delivery bag which was suitably voluminous to fit a whole box worth of essentials.

Well within the allocated time I had made the drop offs, and I hope that Jo had as much success having headed to Peckham for her delivery.

They really do fantastic work at the Borough Food Cooperative, and would heartily encourage anyone to spend time helping out there - they are always looking for volunteers.

The Borough Food Cooperative opened in October 2020. With help from organisations like FareShare, the Borough Food Cooperative acts as a subsidized supermarket, offering members to stop in and pick up £15-£20 worth of groceries for £4.50. The Cooperative is open during lockdown to provide essential supplies to local households
