Report written by Bournemouth runner
The best way to start a new month is to go on a group run with GoodGym Bournemouth. Why? Well, because the first run of the month means we are running to Abbeyfield Wessez to host their monthly quiz night.....and well we love it sooooooooo much!!! We wish we could go every week!
This evening we were lucky to have Mo join us for his first group run, and although he prefers to run Marathons, said he had a great time. So Mo, we hope you're happy to join us every week for a nice easy run and make some new friends! See you next week! Give him a cheer and a support!
In total we were 17 and after a quick brief and name check we spoke about our favourite distances....some good ones in there....Hannah's one was my favourite!!
We set off along the cliff top and down the Russel Coates museum hill leading down to the Pier, waves rolling in to one side in very steady stream, almost melodic. Down at the bottom we gather and not just in numbers but to gather strength for the lovely BIC hill climb. Which actually from a distance, Neil pointed out, looks way steeper and more daunting!! We all pretended we were looking forward to it and set off, one step after another, the only way we know how to as runners! Just keep going, don't stop, crawl if you have to!!
I did notice that Phil and Mo managed to have a very easy conversation all the way to the top and when they got to the top barely looked out of breath....impressive!!
We caught out breath....not Phil and Mo obviously, and headed to the Westcliff zig zag to make our way down that and down to the prom and along to the first chine where a dark winding staircase awaited the gang.
We made it to the top and into the street lights and headed off on the last 1km, all flat along back roads with lots of lighting and minimal wind....just how we like it.
We arrived at Westbourne House where Mark and Nicky were ready to give us a warm welcome, having kindly provided refreshments for us. We said our hellos and the gang spread themselves out amongst the residents 5 or so per table. Catching up and seeing what was new.
Tonight Daryl had kindly stepped up to be Quizmaster, organising 30 questions for us and after the teams had settled and had come up with their team names, got us all going and listening intently.
A very up to date team name was Corona Virus.....we also had a team called: I have a tablet under the table......and the third team were killed the winners.....so who do you think won? Well, funnily enough the one with the tablet under the table!!! They of course didn't have any such thing....their combined brain power much more powerful than a tablet...... And it came to a sudden death question too, both top teams finishing on 22 out of 30!
We celebrations complete we had enough time for a team photo and then we had to set off for the 2km run back to the hotel...now mostly down hill.
Once back we did a stretch, spoked about next week and said our goodbyes.
Thank you Caprice for back marking tonight, again Daryl for being a great Quizmaster. Good luck to Karen and Charlotte running the Larmer Tree 10 miler this weekend, hope the terrain holds firm for you! Daryl, well done for volunteering at it as a marshall!
See you all next week!
