The last group run of January and which task owner best to team up with but Cllr David Gibson; there is always something to do in his ward of Hannover. With no newbies to welcome and no Abi to congratulate on her amazing 10k at the weekend we got started with our warmup and Tara led us up the Lewes Road to Brighton’s Phoenix Gallery.

We met David who divided us up into four groups to tackle painting over graffiti, plant bulbs on Elm Grove, litter picking on the Level and a cheeky few delivered some more copies of Hourglass, Extinct Rebellion's newsletter.

Those of us delivering the Hourglass spotted our fellow Goodgymers painting, and Michelle certainly looked like she was hard at it having covered herself in speckles of paint! Covering the unsightly graffiti tagging behind the Brighton Phoenix the team moved on to the bottom of Southover Street to tackle an ongoing battle with those who feel the need to mark the area.

Tara took a team to the level, an area used by lots of residents of the Lewes Road, London Road and Hannover, to do a spot of plogging. Armed with litter pickers and bags the team cleared some of the main open area.

Cllr Elaine Hills took the last team up Elm Grove to plant bulbs to make the area look more colourful come the Spring. We’ll be looking forward to seeing how they get on over the next few months when we head to the Hannover area.

With all our tasks complete, we collected at the level to complete single 600m laps – the intention was that each lap was completed at a consistent time. How many of us managed to stay consistent? This Goodgymer didn’t even manage all three! Frannie, Juliet and I took a little trip to The Village pub to return the litter pickers while the rest of the Brighton Goodgymers worked on their leg strength with lunges, balancing and hops. There was also a round of core exercises and once we were all fully aware of our abs (ouch!) we headed back to the sea front and base.

Next week Brighton Goodgym will be heading to St Andrew’s Church in Hove to clean up some graffiti and possibly dig a trench! Limber up those arms and back!

Cllr David Gibson is well on board with Goodgym and comes up with various tasks around the ward to keep us busy & useful.
