Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Ben Parkes
It was great to see lots of new faces this week! Plus some tourists from Greenwich in the form of Helen and Mridula, you're welcome anytime! It was almost a shame to have to start the session, as everyone was chatting to each other so much, we could have just moved to the bar! But start we must, as we had a epic clearing challenge in the nearby gardens ahead.
We welcomed David and David! Who were joining us for the first time, great to have you on board guys.. give them a cheer!
After we all named out favourite animated film characters, then Andrew led us off on the short jog to Bethnal Green Nature Reserve to start work removing some troublesome plants.
Please forgive me, I can't remember the same of this weed... but it was certainly making it's presence felt everywhere. Wheelbarrows at the ready, gloves on, we set about clearing the complete eastern side of the garden.
After about 20 minutes of pulling, heaving and tugging we'd made some great progress and the weed heap at the back of the area was now piled high. Sarah your wheel barrow skills are very good! Great job team everyone..
We the got a guided tour round the herbal medicine garden. If you want to find out more the have a look at their Facebook page by clicking here and their website by clicking here
We then did a quick warm up of lunges, high knees, butt kicks and some of what I call 'opening and closing the gate'.
Andrew then led the way again over to Victoria Park for our fitness session. We started with some Fartlek runs. Sprint out, easy jog back then walk to cool down. Speedy Alex led the way, closely followed by Laurie and Bryon as everyone pushed really hard, top running and some great form going on there!
We then moved onto do 1 minute of step ups and 1 minute of tricep dips, it was great to see everyone complete it, even when the last 10 seconds were really tough.
A short cool down jog and stretches followed as we headed back to the hotel to finish off a great evening with so much achieved and a solid fitness session. Give yourself a big cheer!
Next week we'll be heading to Victoria Park to work with the rangers there for the evening, then we'll return to the nature reserve in two weeks to finish the job.
Tower Hamlets
We're back to see Janet at the Cranbrook Community Food Garden!
