This just in: Five Goodgym Brightonians (Helena, Nicki/ Nicola, Sarah, Tabitha and Amro) participated in the Million Mile Clean up organised by Surfers Against Sewage that took place on April 22, 2023 to celebrate Earth Day. The team collected litter and rubbish left on Brighton beach and Hove Lawns using tools and supplies provided by Surfers Against Sewage volunteers. Weather was exceptional and the Goodgymers were showered with smiles and messages of support from several passerby while carrying out their good deed.
Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by EARTHDAY.ORG (formerly Earth Day Network)including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries. The official theme for 2023 is Invest In Our Planet.
Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) is a marine conservation charity working with communities to protect oceans, waves, beaches and marine life. It was created in 1990 by a group of Cornish surfers from the villages of St Agnes and Porthtowan on the north coast of Cornwall.
Today marks a remarkable day to celebrate Mother Earth and reflect on all the gifts and privileges it provides to humankind.
I urge anyone reading this to take a moment and appreciate the Earth we live on and remember that no one owns the land it was here before us and it will stay here after we go. While today is marked as Earth Day, everyday should be a day to take action to help Mother Earth thrive. After all we only have one planet to call home, lets protect it.
We are the voice of the ocean. Campaigning for a thriving ocean, thriving people. We raise awareness of plastic pollution through mobilising hundreds of thousands of Ocean Activists, UK-wide, to clean their local environment. And the data we gather supports our campaigns against the polluters.
