While regular trainer Brahma was off running like the wind, five grinning GoodGymmers faced the wind and ran in blustery conditions to Mobile City Garden - a temporary and "movable" garden in the Olympic Park.

We had spades, shovels, buckets and wheelbarrows, a few sacks and lots of soil. Our job was to wheelbarrow the soil round into the yard and fill the sacks. We worked hard for 25 minutes - stopping just once for an artistic shot into the sun - and made great progress.

Windswept and with slightly chilly hands we decided to test how well we could function as HUMAN WHEELBARROWS and set about a wheelbarrow race. Team Rodrigo and Mairead absolutely destroyed Team Alice and Tim who blamed their gloves. Hmm...

On the way back we got speedy with a spot of secret surges: each person was assigned a secret number and when that number was called out had to surge away from the rest of the group who gave chase. There was some running backwards, running sideways, turning corners, dummy gestures and general trickery. Just what secret surges is all about!

Close to home we stopped off to work on our standing starts and reaction times by trying to catch tennis balls. Remember, opposite arm and leg forwards and most of the weight on the front leg and you'll be flying.

A jog back to the pool for a stretch and off we went into the wind.

A great night in Newham. Brahma's back next week to get you blimmin' fit.

Simon
