Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Joel Wiles
17 playful GoodGymers ran 4K to Waterside Adventure playground to whip it into shape!
A balmy summer evening in Islington met us with Simon away I had the pleasure of running with you.
As we prepared to leave on our southwards run we were treated to some expertly executed Parkour. Flips over benches, spins off of trees had us thinking if we replicate. Thankfully we realised that we would be in bits if we tried so we did what we do and got running!!
2k Steady and strong took us to meet the energetic Dawn who explained the jobs and in our pods we got cracking.
The soon to be repaired zip wire got a hell of a forking with the bark being turned over at a staggering rate! Going so fast the rest of the playground got turned over to!
Then we had the loppers who cut high and low to rid the park of any dead wood.
As well as tidying up the park edges to remove trip hazards and chop up wood for a fire pit and with almost veterinary gloves remove some determined thistles!
The final group got down to some serious sieving. Clearing out the kids sand pit of any debris (mainly stones) with some excellent panning to make a revitalised sand area super inviting for some of Islington's hard to reach young people.
After 40 minutes of action we had made a big difference and as there was a controversial sugar shortage this week we got our rush by having play of the expansive playground.
With us a little short of running for the evening we had a staggered leave time to allow anyone who wanted to push the pace on the slightly up slope run back to base.
Great job by Graham taking the post run stretch out and sugar levels were restored when Patrick returned from a mission.
Thank you for having me this evening.
See you soon, and good luck with all your up coming sporting endeavours
Smooth Running
