Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
On a glorious night in Lambeth 30 runners delivered food to Vauxhall foodbank and had fun in Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens
On a lovely light, dry Tuesday evening spirits were high as we met at Papa's park for this week's Lambeth group run. We were headed to one of our favourite tasks, Vauxhall foodbank and we had quite an array of food to deliver. In addition to the usual pasta sauce, coffee and jam there was Steve with his six miniature cans of beans and Maya with her jumbo cans of rice pudding, quite a sight running down Brixton Road.
Once we got to the foodbank the ever lovely Faith was on hand to explain how the foodbank works and quite how many steps are involved between the donations coming in and the food going out to those that really need it. It's a good job that all the donations are weighed because we learned tonight that Faith is pretty bad at guestimating the weight of food - after initally congratulating us on running with about 15kg of donations the final scores on the scales showed that it was actually more like 40kg. That's over a kg of food each on a 2 mile run. Great work team!
With a super quick task we had a bit of time left over for some circuits in Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens. After a demonstration by myself and John the group got stuck into squat jumps, flat out burpees and jumping lunges, a perfect round of exercise to give them some wobbly legs on the way home.
Jay brought out cake and things got weird
The biggest story of the night though was that we got to induct another Lambeth legend to the 100 club and present John with his wings. John has been an integral part of GoodGym Lambeth since September 2014 and has been visiting his coach Flo now for over a year. You can read their lovely story here. John also writes a cracking run report, his 20 point plan on how to plant a tree is a personal favourite of mine and anyone who came to the Christmas party knows that he can totally rock speedos and a running vest on a night out. In honour of John's achievement Jay baked us a very delicious chocolate bourbon cake, the tastiness of which was proven by all the cries of 'Oh Jay!' that rang out as we tucked in.
