A Lot (ment) of Fun in the Gardens!!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

The crew was back last night meeting up at Papa's ready to head out and meet Annick and Jean over at the Brixton Allotments.

First up a very warm welcome to Jordan who was joining for her first Group Run with the Lambeth team - great to have you with us Jordan!

Fi joined us and we set off on a nice bright run round to the back of HMP Brixton and then on to the allotments, arriving just our walkers Marie-Noelle and Paul were striding up.

Our tasks this evening were to remove the broken greenhouse which was locked in an embrace with a tree that had grown around it, lots of weeding and clearing, rolling up some old carpet and laying down some new and moving the patio table over to the dancefloor which we had previously helped to lay last year!

By 8pm we had completed all the tasks (surprising our hosts) and were ready to set off but not before Annick had shared a beautiful bunch of forget me nots, some leek and baby kale all pulled straight from the ground and ready to be cooked up that evening.

Huge thanks to all and we look forward to seeing you next time - roll on summer tasks!!

(Wood) Chip in the Dale….!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

The crew were back at it on Tuesday evening, ready and raring to go with our monthly task down at Thorlands.

AA Yianny met with Dan and Tilly and then set off at a very leisurely pace towards Thorlands due to ageing knees!!

On arrival we were met by returning marathon hero Michael who smashed his Newport Marathon run (see pics) and on one day rest was back at it with us helping out his community (proof that not all heroes wear capes!)

We also had our resident cyclists Marie-Noelle and Paul already tooled up and rating to get on with the task of weeding, clearing and chipping the fenced off area for future use by residents.

Other than a few Blackberry thorns all went off without incident and we learned plenty from Simon about the invasive and other species we were dealing with as we went.

Another lovely task down and we move on hoping to enjoy the weather as the nights grow warmer and a summer picnic looms... Keep your eyes peeled for that one :0)

Thanks all and see you next time!

Chip Shape & Bristol Fashion !!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

Let's talk about last night's session back with Simon at the Thorlands project. The group was neatly divided by those meeting at Papa's fir the Group Run, those running directly to the task and thise cycling so we had all bases covered fotness wise!

AA Yianny was delighted to hear stories from GGers or holidays just taken to exotic climbs (and not AT ALL jealous...) leading to fun conversations about covonut cocktails and low cost flights on the run down to the land of Thor.

On arrival the three groups we reunited and ready to kick things off in the frosty evening air. Spirits were nevertheless high probably due to setting off while it was still light out and our tasks were clear, dig over the next section of garden 1 and collect and barrow in the woodchip to lay down preparing the next phase of this project.

The great spirit led to GGers discussing the best way to attract more members to the Lambeth community with some 'innovative' suggestions on fancy dress shall we say being floated.... Perhaps one to file under let's revisit after the next GG social?

By the end of the session all the planned work was complete, Simon was happy (and won his battle against technology!) and everyone could head home knowing another great task was in the books.

Huge thanks to all as ever and see you next time :0)

Whistle While You Work - GoodGym's Barmy Army!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

It was a biting cold evening in Lambeth, still dark by the time we met at Papa's but that won't keep our GGers away from doing good around the community.

Just Tilly and AA Yianny met for the run from Brixton over to Thorlands Gardens, while Michael ran directly to the task and Marie-Noelle and Paul cycled there - a full house of fitness and cardio right there.

Simon and the residents were impressed that the group turned out in the conditions but we are a) Barmy and b) always committed here in Lambeth so we were ready to continue the work on the middle garden with tasks to turn over the soil in the muddy patch, clear the leaf mulch for the pathway and collect and lay the fresh woodchip for those areas.

And so while Paul whistled us a tune to work to we set about the tasks and the various Snow Whites and Dwarves (I know which dwarf I am!) got stuck in 40 or so minutes later all the tools were racked away and the pathway was looking very chipper.....!

Big thanks to everyone and I look forward to seeing you next time :0)

Weeding and Writing at Jubilee Primary !!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

Last night Lambeth's fearless Run Leader Joao stepped in to lead the group run for AA Yianny - teamwork makes the dreamwork everyone!

We welcomed a new member to the team as well with Adam joining the group so great to have you with us Adam :0)

After a short run up to Jubilee Primary Juan needed us to weed and clear the side garden and so that is what the group did despite the freezing conditions (hope all fingers and toes survived...) By the end of the session our runners and cyclists had cleared the area and Juan sends his thanks for all our efforts .

Well done to everyone and thanks for braving the conditions, we will see you next week (sign up here) and don't forget to check out the community missions as well so we can push on in our January Challenge

The Weather Thor-ed Out - Back to the Walled Garden!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

It's Tuesday and so the Lambeth crew were back at it, this week we were heading to the Thor-lands to meet Simon and get cracking on the walled garden.

Fi, Dan and AA Yianny met at Papa's and headed off to meet Marie-Noelle, Paul and Michael directly at the task. Simon was super well prepared and had a plan fully fleshed out and printed hanging from a tree for us to refer to (we could just make it out in the dark!)

The two main jobs were weeding the planting area and mulching the tonnes of fallen leaves to create lots of compost.

After handing out the sweet treats AA had to head off but the group did a great job and Simon was very satisfied with the result and so another great session is in the bag and we move on to next week at Jubilee Primary School - get signed up now! Next Tuesday's Group Run

Compost All Ye Faithful!!

Lambeth Report written by Yianny (he / him)

A wonderful way to start 2025 was meeting our awesome Lambeth GGers and heading out for the first group session of the year.

It was a triple celebration session and so with the blessing of the group I will keep the run report mercifully brief and cut the waffle so here we go:

  • Lambeth GGers are amazing and came out in good numbers in the freezing cold
  • We ran to Clapham to rescue Xmas trees not collected by the council and taking up pavement space
  • We dragged, carried and dropped them at the Clapham Common collection site
  • A fantastic 35 trees were collected to be composted and reused by Lambeth Council

Quote of the evening from Daniel on his 2nd ever session "There is only upside to this GoodGym thing!"

We ended the eve with some sweet treats as well.

Much love to everyone, on with the January Challenge and I look forward to seeing you next time!
