Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)
We were sandwiched in between two storms last night, but we just managed to get away with it!
As always, we took advantage of our cosy room at the town hall to do the news before we set off
The 2020 GoodGym Shindig will happen on the weekend of Friday 7th August - do you fancy it? All you need to know can be found here where you can also register. This year we are heading to YHA Wilderhope Manor and it really is for everyone who wants to be involved in making GoodGym as good as it can be, whether you have just come on your first run or you've reached the hundreds!
Well done to the loads of you who did parkrun at Gunnersbury this weekend, especially to Matt who got himself a new 5km PB!
While we were doing our warm up ahead of the 2km run to Berrymeads infant school and our task for the evening, we discussed what we would do if we were London Mayor for the day. From giving everybody the day off, punishing litterers, and banning cheese to making everything free, we had some very lofty ambitions.
After an increasingly drizzly run to the school (or 'wet air' as Matt called it), we arrived to find Sheila waiting with an enormous pile of wood chip which had just been delivered. Our first job was to spread it over the paths and bare areas around the school's beautiful garden. So, barrows and spades at the ready we got cracking.
Meanwhile, Andy, Kate and Mikaela set to tackling the ivy on the back wall of the garden with enthusiasm and zero tolerance for anything left stuck to the wall - check out the incredible job they did in the pics. They even found some goodies hidden away. 'I just pulled this plant and a spoon fell out,' said Andy. Well I never.
At the back of the school was a hive of activity, Luis and Mira were doing some hard graft in the nursery area picking up all the twigs and branches that had been blown down by the bad weather. In just 15 minutes they managed to collect three huge bags of them, which was some seriously good going.
With all the jobs done, we took a steady run back to the town hall to knock out a 4 minute progression run which saw us up our speed and intensity finishing with a minute of really hard running. Great work everybody.
Shout out to Michelle, Cathy and Georgia who came up with this week's excellent run report pun! See you next week for more getting fit, and doing good.
