On a beautiful and sunny New Year's Day, 14 GG Yorkies (including two brand new ones!) helped create a foresty wonderland at Knavesmire School.

Our tasks were:

  • to shift a big pile of woodchip from the car park to the 'campfire area'
  • move all the sitting logs about 1.5m north
  • saw lots of chunks of wood into smaller pieces for kids activities
  • make a neat pile of den building wood
  • roll up the wire fencing into tight bundles
  • remove or bang down all nails in bits of wood
  • general sweep and tidy up

It seemed a lot but everyone broke into small sub-teams to get the tasks completed.

Ellie B (winner of the 2019 Goodfeller award) was obviously straight into the sawing, and newbies Tim and Adriana joined her.

Ed, Mitch, Tim, Max and Helen got involved in the most destructive task which was breaking up big logs which has been pretty much bolted together. There seemed to be a lot of throwing stuff on the floor really hard, which they enjoyed.

It didn't take too long for all the woodchip to be moved and we finished up with a final tidy and a nice cup of hot fruit tea - perfect!
