Find out about GoodGym TaskForce

Share the love

33 Buoyant Hackney GoodGymers ran 5k, dominated a body blasting circuit and lifted, shifted and shovelled a tonne of compost.

A record equalling Hackney Goodgym attendance took us all by surprise and was great to see so many returning faces to go with our regular runners! A special shout out to our 5 Newbies (Rachel, Sel-Vin, David, Matt and Ruwan)tonight, running strong on their first Goodgym outing!!

As we almost burst out of the Bakehouse straight into a sharpe welcome speech and super long head count. We rolled in 2 groups around to the Town Hall Race Way where we activated and mobilised our key running muscles and joints. A Haka static squat face off into some sky high plyometric squats got the blood flowing so we rounded off the warm up with 4 progressively faster 120 running reps!

With our hearts thumping and blood pumping we headed the 2k to the Food Growers Group in Dalston to meet Alex from the project. Obviously a huge shock for Alex as 33 Red Thunder GoodGymers piled around the corner! Alex got on the phone and gathered some more help and tools. Splitting up into multiple units we had shovelers, forkers, dragers, barrowers, and the Carriage crew all rotating around jobs and alternating with a High intensity circuit.

So much going on all over the estate! Rocky garden, Farmers garden, hydro chamber and a huge raised flower bed all had GoodGymers putting in epic physical work!

The compost pile going down at a rapid rate, huge bags getting dragged to all corners and even some ingenious barrows carrying onto the raised bed. We made too use of the 40 minutes on site getting so much work done, great job everyone!!

With the huge thanks of Alex and the Food Growers Group we split into 3 groups for the Run back to base! First to set off was the Canadians lead by chief emigrater Clare who guided the group on a steady paced 3k route back to base! Team Sexy lead by Eva navigated a 2k steady paced loop back by the Speedy crew laid the foot to the floor to sneak in just before 8:30 after tidying up and expert ** Carriage** driving from Mr Utility bag himself Peter.

A crazy and enjoyable evening for all was rounded off with some stretches and a silent round of applause!!

Loved having you all along, be great to see you all again next week!! We are off to Wilton Estate for some more community gardening and hopefully Pom Pom action!! Sign up here

We will also be saying goodbye to Task Force member ** Clare** next week as she moves to Canada so we are having our monthly social after the session so please stay on to refuel wish Clair well on her adventure.

Smooth Steering

Joel
