Report written by Amy L (she/her)
reform /rɪˈfɔːm/ verb /1. make changes in something in order to improve it.
The New Year is here and tradition has us thinking about what we could make better, so it was fitting that we were headed to Reform Road for our first group run of the year. The reform we had in mind was not so much institutional as environmental - a litter pick! Thanks to keen plogger Juli, who had spotted that this industrial area was in need of a tidy up.
It was great to see such a big group, and to welcome newcomer Fiona as well as tourists Jen and Jennie, and lots of our lovely regular Windsor and Maidenhead group runners and walkers.
We kicked off the evening with a warm up, using the litter pickers like mini hurdles to lunge, squat and jump over and to zigzag around. Then we split into groups of walkers and runners before heading off to our target area via the York Stream footpath.
Since I started this report talking about road names, I probably also ought to mention that we were Waldecked out in high vis and lights to #RunBrightAtNight. We filled 13 bags, and could easily have filled Moorbridge. We even rescued a Waitrose trolley and returned it to the shop - they were so delighted they offered Jess a reward and were practically singing 'Forlease a jolly good fellow'! I can't resist a Green Lane so the runners took the long way back to our start location, taking in a bit of the parkrun route. We really had a Braywicked time!
Well done to everyone who got involved this week. We are doing really well with our January challenge and have loads more opportunities to do good and get fit this month.
