Report written by Bristol runner
On a sunny Saturday morning, 9 GoodGym runners embarked on another mission to help Surfers Against Sewage cleaning up the riverbanks of the Avon. This time, we met on the side of the Portway as the other side had been cleaned a couple of weeks before. Overlooking the Avon, our task location was quite beautiful but the noise of the busy road behind us made social distanced conversation somewhat difficult. So we split up in two groups and busied ourselves with searching for rubbish and filling our bin bags in rapid speed. We came across some dubious items, including 5 (single) shoes, a small wooden bench (I almost got talked into taking it home but it was too heavy to carry), countless tennis balls, a Peppa Pig toy and a car tyre. Despite having done this task many times now, litter picking on the riverbanks has always some surprises in store for us. Who knows what we are going to find next time?!
Great shout out to Alex for earning his first good deed with this task!
Well done everyone, see you all next time on the other side (of the river...)!
We’re a community dedicated to the protection of oceans, waves, beaches and wildlife. We fight long and hard to protect what we love and we won’t stop until it’s completely clean, safe and protected for everyone, forever.
