Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Saul Muldoon
If your thrill is cutting back vegetation and clearing leaves to benefit the local community then GoodGym Huddersfield was definitely the place to be last night.
Whilst not on the scale of last week's massive turnout for the launch run, it was great to see some runners returning, and some new GoodGymmers in the form of Cherrilyn Cotterel and Enejan Bendover.
Eager to get started before the darkness fell, the 3K run to our task location was rattled off, although the final stiff climb up to Blue Bell Hill itself had us all digging deep.
Upon arriving it was good to see local Councillor Julie Stewart Turner and her team of volunteers already well on with the task. Five minutes later the GoodGymmers were stuck in too, pruning, sweeping and shovelling to clear the pathway which acts as a useful shortcut between Blue Bell Hill and Lockwood. A local passer by commended us on our work, but despite our best efforts couldn't be persuaded to pick up a broom and join in!
Despite the chill of the autumnal evening, we had no difficulty staying warm, bending, stretching, squatting and lifting gave this task the feel of a full body workout.
Thirty minutes of hard labour later, we were done, the path was cleared and even in the light of our collective headtorches was looking much better than when we arrived. After saying goodbye to Julie and her volunteers we headed back to the Stadium.
As with all GoodGym Huddersfield runs the return route was different to the outward, and as we ran we discussed a suitable title for this report. In the end it was Louise Galvin who was sufficiently inspired to come up with this week's headline pun.
Thanks to all the GoodGymmers who supported the task this week. I shall look forward to running and working with you all again next Tuesday.
