Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
It's was our first ever run from Greenwich University this week and 10 people came along to find out what it was all about.
It was a nice run we covered about 7k over the course of the evening and climbed the 'not insignificant' Point hill on our way round. We also helped out Elisabeth at Greenwich West Community and Art Centre near Greenwich Station.
Greenwich West
This building has been used as a community facility since 1876 and the small alleyway running down the side of the building has been unused for almost as long. It was pretty overgrown; covered in Ivy, rubble and Theatre props (a huge fake tree was a weirder thing to find in a garden bed). Elisabeth would love to make better use of the area but her and the volunteer team have found it difficult to set aside time to clear the area. Fortunately we had a team of willing people ready and available to help at short notice.
Glove Fail. Ooops
The only thing I had to remember this evening was a big bag of gardening gloves, but I completely failed to do that. So we all donned a pair of plastic gloves, shared around the tools we had at our disposal and made a start at garden clearance. We pulled up weeds, cut back roots and branches and shifted rubble.
In 30-40 mins we had made a lot or progress (check the pics), and decided to head on the longer leg of our journey home. Elisabeth was delighted with our help and has promised to update us on development of the space over the next few months. Hopefully we'll have a role to play.
Hills...mainly
Our route home took us up Royal Hill, and up Point Hill to Blackheath, before we gave a few of the guys a chance to stretch their legs with a long cut around the heath, before descending Maze Hill on our way home. We reached the Uni at 8.30, with time for a quick stretch before we headed off on a separate ways. Thanks everyone
