Goodgym Bournemouth hits the streets for a second time! 12 runners stormed over to Southbourne and got stuck in cleaning and gardening at the premises of a local charity, Faithworks.

The group met outside Urban Reef filled with anticipation and excitement for what lay ahead. We welcomed new faces to GoodGym following the fantastic press coverage last week.

I provided more insight into the other ways in which we can support our community through Coach Runs, reducing isolation and loneliness in our neighbourhoods. As well as debunking some myths that had been circulating that we all needed to be super fit runners to get involved. There will be shorter run listed on the website each week to ensure all abilities can get involved in GoodGym - we need you all!!

GoodGym is here to help you build your fitness, so as we warmed up I explained I’d be recording distance and pace on my own Garmin but encouraged the group to track their own personal progress on Strava or RunKeeper - best way to see how much fitter you are all getting week on week. You can set your own goals through your goodgym profile and shout out to Julia who has already made a pledge!

We set off away from the bright lights of Boscombe Pier and headed straight up the first zig zag (GULP!) and onto the overcliff in the direction of the lovely Fisherman’s Walk. We regrouped for some on the spot burpees - well done guys!! and then sped through here and emerged on Southbourne Grove, from where it was a short dash to Faithworks’ premises.

Faithworks provide support, help and run local foodbanks for those in need. They've just moved to a lovely new premises so our task was to speed clean the whole place under the guidance of their chief exec Alisair. The team did an amazing job and we covered far more ground than expected - well done!!

Our run back was a deviated route taking us to a total of 7km covered. Pace was on average 10km/h so you all did fantastically! We were welcomed back by a band playing (just for us of course) in Urban Reef. So warmed down to the mellow beats of Bob Marley - nice!!

Next week we are going to be tasked with some garden clearance for a lovely local respite hotel. Wednesday 6.15pm Urban Reef - be there or be square!!!
