It’s the 30th anniversary of the Trans Pennine Trail. Sheffield has approximately 17 miles of National Cycle Network and growing, much of which is also part of the Trans -Pennine Trail. The Network enters Sheffield from the north at Grenoside and leave the city to the East at Rother Valley Park and to the West at Ringinglow. More info can be found here: https://www.transpenninetrail.org.uk/sunday-30th-june-2019-30-on-the-30th-part-of-our-30th-anniversary-celebrations/

We had several GG Sheff newbies amongst the 34 runners at tonight's sesh: Anna , Joe Waller, Sy Atchana Fu and Jonathan Dick. Hope to see them at plenty more runs in the future - make sure to give them a cheer!

It was also Gilly Harris's 50th good deed! She wore the now-classic 50th bowtie with pride. Amazing work Gill!

Tonight's task with Sustrans took us to the old Durham Ox pub. Luckily, this is quite a short route as we had some runners who had completed races at the weekend, ranging from a 10k to a marathon (well done Bee!). With our fun to the location being very short and very straightforward, we arrived in good time and were greeted by Simon, who delegated tasks and tools to the group.

Armed with litter pickers, brushes, spades and loppers we soon turned a rather sad looking stretch of the National Cycle Network from a nightmare into a cyclist's dream. Turns out a thirty-four-strong group can make a massive, massive difference in forty minutes (which we knew already, but it's always nice to see). We were spurred on this time, of course, by the presence of an ITV crew, filming for a segment on Sustrans. Wanting to impress them, we upped our game!

After the excitement of the task, we returned to base, detouring slightly to the Sheffield Amphitheatre for a fitness session. The group split into the teams, and rotated round three activities: 1. Steel City Steps sprint 2. Box Jumps/Step Ups 3. Tri Dips

Confident that everyone had had enough exercise, we then headed back to the Showroom via the old bridge and across the station forecourt for some stretching, punning, and light refreshments...

Special shoutout to the wonderfully CREATIVE CHRIS DYER who came up with tonight's title. Puntastic.
