Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Tara Shanahan
What a lovely mild evening for a Goodgym group run!
News tonight once again focussed on the extraordinary progress of Michael! Less than 6 months ago Michael’s parkrun PB was around 34 minutes but last Saturday at Hove Park he yet again improved his PB to 25 minutes and 11seconds! So frequent is his PB bagging that it is more newsworthy to report when he doesn’t get a PB!
We were just a small group tonight as I know a few of you have been hit by the lurgy so decided to stay home int he warm. We headed the kilometre or so to our task along the seafront before heading north to Essex Place in Kemp Town.
We were met by local resident and community gardener Frances who is doing an amazing job of single handedly maintaining an immaculate community garden. However next to Frances’s garden is a neglected patch of ground that needs some Goodgym TLC.
Our task tonight was to have a general tidy up and clear the site of dead grass, abandoned Christmas trees, bricks and old bits of wood. We also set to work digging a small trench to bury a hosepipe which will make it a lot easier for Francis to water her garden. As always we achieved loads in a small space of time and had time left to dig over some of the area that will be a wild flower garden.
We will be heading back here next week to continue our good work and I can’t wait to see what this garden will end up like in a few months with Frances’s skill and our hard working pairs of hands!
Task complete we headed to the seafront for a run technique focus on leg turnover. We talked about the difference between speedy elites and ‘Sunday shufflers’ and did some drills to get us cycling our legs under our bodies and getting the knee lifted a bit higher and the heels kicking up towards our bums. We then set off on some 1 minute efforts to focus on what we’d just practiced and you were all transformed!
Well done guys, see you next week ..oh and thanks to Lydia for tonights pun!
