Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
13 runners litter pick at leisure world before 400m reps
As Colchester’s GoodGym’ers flocked towards Colchester Leisure Centre for the sixth, and latest, instalment of do-good inspired fitness, the normality of a smiling gaggle of red shirted runners underlined the success of our newly established group.
Whilst the previous five weeks have seen our GoodGym’ers spread their wings far and wide, embarking on various good deeds around the local community, this week, our endeavours were focused on giving something back to Colchester Leisure Centre; who have been very welcoming and helpful by offering their facilities as a base for our GoodGym runs.
As a thank you, Colchester GoodGym’ers set to task scouring the grounds of the leisure centre for any pieces of litter we could find. Armed with our litter grabbers, we sought and fought over food waste and cigarette ends, much like a flock of seagulls circling and swooping for stray chips.
With the grounds of the leisure centre now clean enough to eat from; we set out on a run that would encompass six laps of the block, being 400 meters a lap. As the sun faded we, somewhat excitedly, got to try out our head torches for the first time. As we raced around the circuit, shooting light trails from our head torches, I can only imagine passing aeroplanes thought they were passing over the M25.
After another good workout complete, we made our way back to base for a warm down before we all departed, to meet again, same time, same place, next week. See you there.
