Emergency GoodGym help is once again needed in Ladywell Fields where 300 young trees planted in January to form a new hedgerow are in need of watering by hand to prevent them from suffering due to extremely dry weather. Please stop by and help the volunteer team who'll be filling buckets from the River Ravensbourne and from a 1000 litre bowser supplied by Lewisham's green space management service, then carrying them to soak the roots of the thirsty saplings. Each tree needs a ring of water around its trunk, ensuring all roots get the moisture needed to sustain growth.
Several watering sessions are being organised by the Ladywell Fields User Group to help the new hedgerow thrive, bringing benefits for park users, for biodiversity and for leafy mitigation of climate change. Find the team beside the railway fence in the northern field (nearest Ladywell station) - the hedge runs south from the skateboard park, finishing at the children's playground next to the river and 'whirly' bridge.

Due to rain forecast for Saturday, providing welcome relief after a prolonged period of drought, the next hedgerow watering session has been moved to August.
