3,700 miles with Rickey Gates
5 GoodGymers made their way to have an amazing time in Islington.
- Thursday, 12th of November 2020
- Led by Simon Fitzmaurice
5 Goodgymmers logged on for our first screening on the Adventure Film Watch Party schedule. During lockdown, we will be hosting interesting and inspiring documentaries about running journeys, incredible achievements or just everyday active life every Thursday at 7.30pm.
Transamericana by Rickey Gates, Dean Leslie and Salomon TV was our pick tonight. A beautiful travelogue of Rickey's huge running trip fro South Carolina to San Francisco, covering rivers, mountains, snow fields and deserts on the way. However, his objective for the trip was to interact with as many people as he could, and to collect memories of his travels. After feeling jaded and out-of-touch after the election of Donald Trump in 2016, Rickey realised that he knew more about places like Japan or Europe than he did about the Southern states of America, and took it upon himself to engage with folks from the red states on trip.
