When an email arrives asking for help to support an exciting project as part of World Refugee Week, it is not hard to gather an intrepid group at short notice to join in on this community mission.
Dome in a Day is a day long arts extravaganza on Saturday 22nd June in the centre of Coventry bringing together artists from across the world with local Coventry artists ranging from puppetry to circus to poetry and music. This is the same dome that was first built as a theatre and townhall space in the Calais Jungle in 2015 for the residents of the camp and has since gone to the suburbs of Paris and to New York.
The dome is a 12x12m geodesic structure that takes 30 people at certain points in the build to hold and was set up outside the Transport Museum in Millennium Place.
Our arms were definitely worked as we held the structures in place whilst they were bolted on. The Good Chance team were so lovely and welcoming and we all had a great time helping. I even headed back later to see the almost completed structure and helped getting the cover on.
It was such a lovely mission.
I will be heading down to Millenium Place tomorrow to see the activities, head down too if you are in town from 11am till late. Liz x
