Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Kingston upon Thames runner
#2minutelitterpick: the windswept edition.
This was a super-last minute community mission listing, so it’s fantastic that 9, yes 9, people made it with the 6 hours notice that had been given.
A few runners got cracking with the plog after the post-long-run refuel, and litter-picked along the Thames towards Kingston. Olivia was the constant throughout, and was ready to greet those of us who had cycled or run from the Hounslow starter session this lunchtime. We were also introduced to Eliza, who had only heard about GoodGym this morning, looked it up and found this to come along to - it was brilliant to have you join us Eliza, we hope you enjoyed your first GoodGym experience and hope to see you at tomorrow’s group run.
With the first group having conquered the “yonder Kingston” section, we headed “yonder Kew”. We may had issues with litter being blown back out of our bags, but we learned the trick of finding an anchor item to weigh the bag down (bonus upper body workout too!) and plugged away. There was A LOT of litter waiting to be picked and we filled up, emptied and refilled and re-emptied our bags.
Butt water we going to do with this??
Having been somewhat persuaded (bullied?!) into coming along, Beth showed exactly why she was needed, venturing to the muddier borders of the riverbanks and bringing back hauls of plastic bottles, cans and a giant water butt thing for water machines. And then it became the tale of Wherever Beth goes, the butt follows (until it was left to flourish independently at the end of the plog).
Great to have you all join us - we saved The Thames from 6 bags full of rubbish and, of course, the butt!
