With very short notice we had a request to deliver letters containing essential flooding information to the Fordlands area of York. A crack team was mobilised with the Govers at the helm, and tallest Gover kindly volunteered to collect the letters from Clements Hall on behalf of all of us.

We assembled at approximately 17:05, with the exception of Debs who missed the first turning and then encountered roadworks and a part-built housing estate in a desperate bid to park somewhere appropriate. With the help of technology she was able to stalk the others and join in with the task shortly after. Weather was moderately moist, but definitely could have been worse, and a multitude of clothing styles were modelled...

With 4 people the process was finely honed; Team Gover to the left, and Sharpe-better to the right. Seamlessly we worked our way around the multitude of crescents, both standard and augmented, with no postbox unfound. No challenge was too great, whether it be a fake door, a letterbox in a wall in its own gated garden, or one in a wall beneath a window behind a bush...

Rich bore the heavy load and dished out hand-sized portions of letters as we went round. There was pondering as to whether we would have enough letters, particularly with a few rogue empty envelopes that caught us unawares. It got very tight at the end and alas we were 7 letters short, but everything we had got dispatched.

Less than an hour had passed, and 300 letters had been ceremoniously delivered. That's over 5 a minute, every minute. Hopefully they will help the local residents who may find their access road is cut off by flood water shortly.

As we left a team were constructing a scaffold bridge to allow those on foot to enter and leave the estate once the waters rise. Great teamwork in action.
