On Saturday morning, GoodGymmers Aimee, Ellen and Darren assembled in Penarth to run to the house of Mrs J. This was after Aimee and Ellen had already done the Grangemoor Parkrun. Kudos to Ellen for her first G'moor Parkrun and to Aimee for having a fab run after feeling not quite up for it first thing!. Kudos also to Darren who not only ran from his house but added on extra bits to the route to make it even longer. So on to the mission we ran. We met Mrs J on her doorstep. Lucky for us she was going in rather than out, since she was expecting us the following day! Once inside we were greeted by dog Alfie, a loveable bundle of fur who kindly offered one of his toys to play with. But first it was time to work, so onwards and upwards - literally as the task at hand was to clean the top half of her windows and frames since she couldn't reach them. Aimee and Ellen started on the inside while Darren went outside to scrub them down. While cleaning away we got to hear a little about Mrs J's life, both in her current house but also previously - in the house just across the street! Darren chipped in every now and then with a muddled word or two from the other side of the doubleglazing. What was that Daz? Did you say you wanted to come in now? Not until you've got rid of all those streaks! We eventually let Darren back in, while Aimee got stuck in emptying the top cupboards of unwanted and out of date foodstuffs: spices, tracklements and condiments, including an unopened jar of honey. As honey never really goes off (did you know they found honey in an ancient Egyptian tomb that was still good?!), Ellen asked to rescue it from going in the bin - great on those homemade Welsh cakes! But soon our task was finished and after a Goodbye to both Mrs J and to Alfie (who had just come back from walkies wearing a very smart doggie coat), we three GoodGymmers ran back to the car and disassembled ... until the next time!
