Brook Church in Runcorn houses one of the town's food banks, providing an ever increasing essential service to vulnerable individuals and families across the borough.
Today, there was a last minute call out for a pick up and delivery of a food parcel for a young family in need.
Ms Z, her partner and five children, were all having to isolate after the eldest daughter tested positive for COVID 19, and was sent home from school.
The volunteers at the Food bank work tirelessly to match essential items to the recipients, packing bags with enough food to last the families for a week.
Of course, with a family of seven to feed, and a dog, there were quite a few bags to deliver...9, in fact! As I was on my bike, even with two panniers, a parcel rack and a back pack, I needed to make two journeys.
As well as the basic items, a few extras were included; a tub of chocolates, a 'Frozen' themed cake mix, crisps, biscuits, and even a slime kit to entertain the children.
The family were overwhelmed, and so grateful for the help. The youngest are just 2 and 3, and were so excited to help carry in some of the packets.
They were such a lovely family, who are clearly having a tough time. It is humbling to be able to help in some small way, and makes one appreciate and be grateful for every meal.
