Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Leanne (she/her)
Newly mission verified Tim joined veteran mission runners Leanne and Ellie to help Mr V tidy up his garden. Though Mr V can't get out to use his garden much, his sitting room looks out onto it so we saw it our mission to provide him with a better view.
The only instructions that Mr V gave us were to 'make it flat' so we started by making the hedge at the front a bit flatter. While Tim and Ellie got stuck in with the shears and loppers, I set to work transferring the landfill waste that was in the green bin into the appropriate bin to make room for the massive amounts of garden waste we were about to create.
The hedge started at the front of the house and led down the side and into the back garden. At the entrance, a fallen gate acted as a sort of see-saw obstacle to climb over. Since it was proving to be a bit of a hazard, we moved it into some newly cleared space where no one would trip over it.
Next, Ellie got to work battling a huge tangle of brambles in the back garden, while Tim set about clearing dead plants from the many planters that were gathered around the shed. After pruning the apple tree, I got into a fight with an extension cable when I was trying to wind it in, but eventually forced it into submission.
Soon, Ellie had cleared a massive space amongst the brambles, but it was barely visible behind a half fallen fence. Not to be defeated, we propped up the fence with a long dead Christmas tree and enough of the freshly weeded planters to hold it in place.
Job done, we left Mr V with a much better view of what seemed like a much bigger garden.
