Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Anja
On this warm-ish but overcast Sunday morning in February Paul and I met up to help Mrs A and her carer Ms M with their back garden. Both front and back garden looked generally in good order, no doubt through a lot of hard work by Ms M and Mrs A when her mobility was better. It was the heavy tasks the ladies needed help with. Unfortunately we couldn't offer any help with the fence panels, that will likely need a professional's attention.
We instead offered to restore access to the back door of the garden that was blocked by waist high amounts of branches leftover from Ms M pruning the nearby shrub previously. There was still a lot to cut back, but Ms M declined as it wasn't the right time of year. We suggested to bag all the branches up, but it quickly became apparent that Ms M's biggest concern was how to dispose of it all. Paul and I deliberated briefly as to the scope of Goodgym missions, however in the end the easiest and quickest solution to put Ms M's mind at ease was to load all the branches into an empty recycling bin and drop them off as green waste at the local recycling yard. So we did. We also discovered an old door underneath the branches, so moved this out of the way to keep the walkway clear.
I think Ms M was relieved to see the garden waste go, and we advised her how she could in future dispose of it for free, before large amounts build up. We said our goodbyes to Mrs A and Ms M to get home just before the rain.
Good teamwork, Paul! See you at a Barnet group run. :-)
