Elizabeth, Michelle, Jonathan and Angela joined forces with friends of Somerleyton Gardens on a hot sunny evening armed with garden gloves at the ready, for some digging! After being briefed with what needed to be done (basically dig up everything within the gravel and fenced area) we collected our spades and forks and got to work. We were also joined by local children who did a great job assisting even if they were wearing slightly inappropriate footwear (flip-flops).

Surprisingly, a few potatoes and radishes were discovered along with other edible plants (possibly planted by someone as part of a mini allotment in the past). Not all the plants were easy to remove though, with one requiring a joint effort to remove it, with Michelle using her fork and Jonathan using his spade.

A couple bricks were also unearthed along with a piece of lego.

With 10 minutes left, we lifted the piles of removed plants to the compost bin. We surprised even ourselves when we stood back and saw what we had achieved as a group and how much of a transformation we had made to the area in less than 60 minutes.

With our group photo taken by one of the local children, we split off in our different directions home in anticipation of our return visit - Somerleyton Gardens 2, revenge of the potatoes.
