Report written by Gill (She/her)
A pair (or was it a pear) of Goodgymers volunteered at Luton's Foodcycle, and it was the first time at the new venue - High Town Baptist Church in Luton. It was GIll's first time helping out in the cooking slot and she was berry delighted with the surplus food on offer, as in addition to the usual collection of fruit there was a large amount of strawberries to be used. Always happy to try out a "Rustle Up" she put together a delicious strawberry coulis before starting on peeling the apples, oranges, melon, satsumas and grapes (no she didn't actually peel the grapes!) for a gorgeous minted fruit salad. Dani, our Foodcycle veteran took on the hosting role, and got stuck in with laying tables ready to greet the guests.
And the icing on the cake... was the icing on the lemon cake and other baked goodies that were offered to our guests as a second pudding.
It was a miserable evening weather wise but a lovely welcoming atmosphere in the new venue for the many guests who attended.
FoodCycle use food that would otherwise go to waste and put on a free social dinner for anyone who wants to come along, whether hungry or lonely, they welcome everyone to come for dinner and meet other people
