Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Nicola Gover
Leanne, Sean and I arrived to find the lovely owner, who showed us the "problem" bushes (Leanne slightly later due to the very strong, Brian induced winds!). She warned us that there was quite a lot to do and it might not be possible in the time we had, but that didn't put us off! So we set to work with the tools to hand - a set of loppers, some clippers and a spade and fork.
However it soon became apparent that the tools were not quite up to the job - the bushes turned out to be extremely bushy and very, very well rooted! We tried our best with what we had, with Sean doing a sterling job with the loppers, but decided to call in the cavalry - in the form of my hubby dropping off a boot-full of garden tools! With the addition of more loppers, a decent fork and a small handsaw we eventually defeated the mighty roots of the first bush - after much hacking, nibbling and wobbling!!
Basking in our de-rooting glory, Leanne and Sean set about defeating the second root while I hacked away at the driveway-covering remaining bushes, and eventually that too succumbed to our stubbornness.
Realising we didn't have time to defeat all of the bushes today, we quickly trimmed the final bushes, cleared up the driveway and neatly piled all the offcuts to one side (quite a big pile now!) and sadly called it a day. We will not be defeated and will return soon to avenge the giant bushes!
