Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Portsmouth runner
I was very pleased to welcome Mum Joanne and Daughter Emma today at Naomi House for their first Goodgym Mission. Glad to get out of the rain and wind, Lucy who was in charge today, checked us in and took Jo and Emma on a quick tour to cover safety aspects, fire doors, where the toilets were and most importantly where the kitchen was for a cuppa. Lucy had got everything ready for us, we were on children’s clothing today, so we could get started immediately, sourcing small hangers for tops and the clip hangers for skirts, trousers, shorts. Emma had a bit of an advantage as she’d previously done some volunteering at a charity shop, which meant she knew the drill, and Jo was a quick learner. There have been a few changes since I was last at Naomi House – hangers now all face left, and the general layout in the shop is much better with lots of space between rails. Really great for customers who can find specific items and sizes much more quickly. There was a shortage of some of the children’s sizing cubes, so finding the right age to cover the requirement was a bit of a struggle. Jo did a great job sorting through the big basket to source what we needed, and we utilised the ‘small’ or ‘medium’ cubes if we were really stuck. As usual the time went really quickly, but we managed to sort 3+ bags and Emma did a great job getting them out on to the shop floor, with us all getting the last lot out before leaving. After a quick tidy, we said our goodbyes and discovered that the sun had come out for our homeward journey. Looking forward to seeing Jo and Emma again on another Mission soon.
