Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Elizabeth
A mission with Rupesh on Saturday morning in Islington? It could only mean one thing: Rupesh is back on the mission train! I was so excited about this, I messaged to see if he would pretend to blow a train whistle for our mission selfie. His enthusiasm for this was self-evident (see photos 😎✌️).
Our mission this morning was to help Mrs K by clearing her garden. She's started to become less mobile as she's gotten older, and hasn't been able to care for her garden as much as she used to. GoodGym were asked if we could help out with this.
After being welcomed into Mrs K's house, she showed us through to the rear garden so we could see what to do. Aside from there being a lot of weeds, there was also a grape vine carrying little, tiny grapes. At Mrs K's urging, I tried one before we started working (pretty tasty!).
Given the large number of weeds, we mostly concentrated on pulling them up, although we trimmed a tiny bit off the vine and chopped down a large bramble from a neighbouring garden (the interloper was lopped). As we worked, we chatted about pretty much everything, pausing only whenever I remembered to get Rupesh to "blow the whistle" again (at least 5 times over the course of the mission 😎✌️).
Finishing up after 2 hours, Mrs K was pleased with our work (we'd filled around 5.5 black bags with weeds, although there's still some clearing to do). She was slightly less pleased that we couldn't stay for lunch (as I think we all were, but I had another mission to get to), but we took some excellent pastries/biscuits for the road.
Until next time, Rupesh: Choo-choo!! 🚂
