Report written by Yianny (he / him)
<Joao on report writing duty this week>
Another Tuesday, another famous Lambeth group run. It was a cold evening and the group noted the days are getting shorter but that never deter us from spreading Goodgym joy and energy across our borough.
The starting point was Papa’s sacred grounds and like the musketeers there were only 3 of us, at least we thought so!! The end point was Palace Road Nature garden, a good 6km run for this evening.
Jo was leading the group, with Lasso on navigation and Maya on road safety duties. Lasso planned a challenging route via Brixton back roads and streets, plenty of twists and turns, we discovered a pub where Brixton prison officers chill after a long day at work, and ran past the tall walls of Brixton prison. Midway through the steepness levels were increasing, both Jo and Maya felt lost but not Lasso whose navigation skills can only be matched with NASA!!! After another turn, we spotted Mcdonald’s but there was no time for snacks, our minds were sharp and focused on the end goal.
Finally, we got to the park and before we knew another googdgym member had arrived, a miscommunication issue led us to believe Charlotte was not joining us. It just happens there are two Charlotte’s in Lambeth, at least that we know of!!!
Charlotte E with D'Artagnan spirit, ran up Brixton hill all by herself and carried the weight of GG values on her shoulders all the way to the park, shouting the motto “One for All”.!!?!!
At last, we were all together and we helped Gerry get rid of some rubbish and trimmed the vegetation by the park fence. Upon completion, the group shouted in unison “All for One”!!! Well, it was time get back to Papa’s, Lasso didn’t join the pleasant run down the hill as he was planning the route for next week’s group run.
Having arrived at Papa’s we stretched our muscles and today’s task was completed.
See you next time
This small nature garden was created in the 1980s. It provides a varied habitat of both an open grassland and a wooded area of exotic and native trees. The pond attracts dragonflies and damselflies flying above and frogs and newts swimming below. Gerry always needs a hand to keep the paths clear of brambles and weeds and to make sure the public space can be enjoyed by everyone.
