Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Sevan
After cutting through overgrown trees and brambles at Grove Farm in the morning, Kash and Sevan were pretty wet when they arrived at Miss L's house. This was a return visit for them as they'd helped in her garden at least twice before. Sevan hadn't been here in around a year, so it was good to see Miss L looking better and she explained that she was now in remission!
As everything was soaking wet, power tools were out of the question. Instead, the main task was familiar to Kash and Sevan, trimming the tops of the hedges that lined Miss L's long back garden. She'd invested in a new pair of shears with extending handles which were perfect for the job, while the older pair were, well, a bit blunt.
Kash and Sevan got to work with the shears, using a step ladder to extend their reach over the deep hedges and trimming the sides a little too. While Kash was making the hedges look neat and tidy, Sevan was at the very back where ivy from all the neighbours' gardens converged to weigh down and destroy the fences. He'd been asked to do some fence fixing, fitting panels back in place, so he ripped and chopped as much of the ivy as he could, then put a temporary fix in place.
Miss L was kind enough to help clear up some of the cuttings. She is now able to take on more in the garden, but said that she gets tired quickly.
Miss L: "It happens when you get old. You can't do as much"
Sevan: "We're all getting older"
Miss L: "Well, it's better than the alternative"
Sevan: "Getting younger?"
Miss L: "No, dying"
Sevan: "Oh, I see" gulp
And then the sun came out and slowly, everything, including Kash and Sevan, started to dry ☀️
Most of the large garden was covered by Kash & Sevan, so it should be in good shape over the winter, ready for another GoodGym visit in the spring. Hopefully it won't be raining next time 🤞
