Six GoodGym Yorkies braved the Easter rain to take on Helmsley 10k

The Helmsley 10km race promised beautiful scenery and a guaranteed Easter egg for the first 300 finishers. While the Griffins were confident that they'd get their Easter eggs:

It's the only way we get Easter Eggs in our house (Ellie),

Lucy wasn't so sure:

I've looked at last year's results and I'm borderline Easter egg

A lot of increasingly wet looking people started to enter the sports club just as we needed to make our way out to start the race. Luckily the rain didn't last long and by the time we were on our way, there was even a hint that the sun might be hiding up there above the clouds.

The first 4km led us on a long and solid uphill along the road before turning a corner and leading into much more muddy, and thankfully downhill terrain where every stride splattered yet more mud up the back of our calves. Underneath the muddy puddles was a packed stone path which kept the ground relatively stable beneath our feet for another 4km or so.

Next, the path gave way to a muddy hill. While the more confident runners literally skated down (some on their bottoms) others took it a bit steadier in an attempt to stay upright, with varying degrees of success.

Mud skating complete, the last km led back out onto the road for the final, gradual incline to the finish.

While some of us were faster than others (Ellie even managed to knock 2 minutes off her 10km PB!) you'll be pleased to know that everyone qualified for their very own Easter egg.
