Report written by Simon Fitzmaurice
5 local Goodgymmers ran and cycled to The Arc Community Centre, Islington to help with their new foodbank.
We met with volunteer leader Damien, who gave us a briefing about their project. As a lot of food banks have been forced to close their doors due to Covid 19 restrictions (including the Trussell Trust), The Arc Centre team set up a delivery service for these essential items for local families. The objective is to avoid contact with others where possible.
Our task was to give the centre a really good clean before the rest of the volunteer crew starts to prepare these care packages. Dom, Jay and John swept the floors in the main event space, whilst Trainer Simon and Abi made up a bucket for mopping afterwards. All the donated fruit, vegetables, cereals, cans, kitchen and bathroom essentials had to moved to the kitchen area before we gave the whole event space a really good clean.
It was great to catch up with our Goodgym crew, whilst keeping a safe social distance! Well done, folks!
We are looking to continue committing to weekly cleaning of the Arc Centre during the lockdown, so keep your eyes on the community mission listings for next week.
