Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Mridula Iyer
Good afternoon goodgymmers! Today 2 intrepid goodgymmers (Rodney and Mridula (me)) ran to Mr. O to clear some weeds in his backyard. Mr. O recently had some knee surgery and unfortunately cannot tend to his garden himself. After another eventful journey there (I accidentally went to the wrong address) I arrived 10 minutes late for my mission. Fortunately the lovely Rodney was very sweet and paying attention to his phone, so he didn't mind too much. It was a lovely day too so it was nice to lounge around for a bit. We entered the flat and were greeted by the lovely and energetic Mr. O. He was ready for us with brand new equipment and a bunch of weeds in the garden. Rodney and I got to work, immediately. There was a lot to do. To our surprise, Mr. O stepped in and helped as well. Mr O has a large shared back yard with little patches that he loves tends to himself but cannot. He wanted us to clear the weeds and make sure that the ground was ready for weeding. Being my second and Rodney's third mission this week, we felt we were dab hands at this, and started clearing away with gusto.
I took this opportunity as usual to interrogate Rodney. As it turns out he works with Beth, who I've done a couple of missions with, and she is always a font of goodgym gossip. Unfortunately Rodney has not been asking her for the updates on the goss and promised to do so on Monday. He also agreed that it was ok to tell people that he and Beth were mad scientists who mutated regular Londoners into useful people who could do a proper job of gardening. In reality they both do much more noble work, but that doesn't make for interesting enough fodder for a run report.
It was a mighty hot day and both of us were starting to resemble Brendan Fraser's tour de force performance as a sweaty basketball player in the highly underrated movie Bedazzled. Elizabeth Hurley makes a surprisingly good Satan. An hour and a half in Mr. O's garden was looking much less weedy as was his patio, so we decided to call it a day. After all it was bank holiday Monday, and we had exciting plans after. Rodney was going to go home, shower and then go to covent garden and eat an entire chicken with some friends. I had an exciting afternoon of napping planned, because that's just how middle aged people roll.
Mr. O still has a little bit more work to do in his backyard, so I suspect there will be another mission coming up soon. If you get a chance it is not to be missed. Mr. O is lovely! Till next time!
