Sunday saw the epic climax to a wonderful weekend of activities with the York 10k taking place around the city under a beautiful blue sky.

The Lambeth team had lost a member who wasn't feeling well enough to travel up but were determined to put in good times in the race (feel better Tim!) and had a full weekend of hospitality in York behind them with Nicky and her York GGers making us feel very welcome at the ParkRun, breakfast, Community Missions and Saturday evening get together.

Tilly, Sarah and Katy met AA Yianny bright and early (which was important in order to queue up for the loos!) and were able to enjoy the York Racecourse in all its glory with some lovely sunshine overhead.

Pre-race prep was underway with smartwatches being checked, music downloaded, earbuds secured, sun cream applied but as yet no sign of our last race team member Kaz.... Not to worry though a few quick WhatsApp messages later and Kaz made it into the race line before all of us (damn you loo queues!).

Well done race organisers - at exactly 9:30am the gun was fired (there wasn't a real gun don't worry) - and we were off with each person heading out at their own pace to try to hit their target times.

York is a beautiful city and the route took in some of the sights including the river, the city ramparts and gates, York Minster before circling back around to the Racecourse - it took a bit of self reminding to look around and enjoy the scenery and not get too caught up in completing the race and it was fairly flat which really helped.

Now to the (not very) important bit, our Lambeth race times... I'm delighted to report that everyone hit their personal targets and Kaz led the way with an excellent 48 minute time, Katy in 52, Sarah in 1 hour even, Tilly in 1:09 and AA somehow coaxed his knees over in 50.

There was representation from GoodGym York too, both in runners and marshalling.

All that remained was for Lambeth team was to meet at a local coffee shop for a celebratory coffee and something delicious preferably involving icing or plenty of sugar all in the name of recovery of course.

A huge thank you to Nicky AA extraordinaire and Lambeth alumni as well as all the York team we met over a very fun 2 days of GG Big Weekender.
