Tackling a jungle... leafing nothing behind!

York Report written by Elle (She/her)

Twelve GoodGymmers arrived soaked from their task at the cemetery to tackle the overgrown buddleia behind Fulford Social Hall. Like locusts they managed the task with incredible enthusiasm and panache! In 20 minutes they had accomplished more than the Parish Councillors could have hoped for.

Next Saturday 17th at 1pm we'll be shredding it all, leaving a completely renewed patio for Fulford Hall.

Conditions were grave at the cemetery today

York Report written by Vicky Hearson (she/her)

Today a hardy bunch met Clive at York Cemetery to do some raking

They have a Victorian infant grave area where 16000 crocuses were planted. They needed the area raked of leaves and twigs to make way for these come spring.

Due to the bumper turnout of volunteers, the task was completed in half the time so many headed off to make an earlier start on the 5th and final task of super Sunday.

Foss my heart and hoe to die

York Report written by James Tilburn

This was the third task of the day for some people and quite likely the wettest. Those of us that had done the second task reluctantly left the café and after a short run / cycle were greeted with some much drier reinforcements.

We didn't let the rain stop the fun. Nor in J's case, proximity to even more water without any kind of safety barrier.

After the concrete banking was cleared of weeds, vegetation and moss (and we'd destroyed one of the builders sacks), we set off to the next task slightly warmer but a lot wetter.

Weed did great together

York Report written by Neil Bushell

Task number Two of super Sunday saw some brave Goodgym folk hit the Groves to clear some moss, weeds and give some lost space back to the residents. We arrived on bike or foot and didn't let the cold, wet (at that point icy) weather stop us. To warm our souls after we finished with a hot drink and breakfast butty at the local cafe before heading onto task three of a super Sunday.

There’s snow business like (ready steady) go business

York Report written by Nicky Woodall (she/her)

13 dedicated GoodGymmers joined a host of (equally dedicated) regular junior parkrun volunteers for the first of 5 possible tasks today.

Conditions were “fresh” (aka freezing) and sadly worsened the closer we got to 9am with a pleasant snow-covered Knavesmire soon transformed into a windy sleety (and did I mention cold?) landscape. Ed swiftly added more layers as he realised that shorts maybe weren’t the best idea today…

Possible icy conditions necessitated the B course, which although looking longer than 2k, actually wasn’t (turns out the team know exactly what they’re doing, never in doubt!)

Talking of another team never to doubt, the incredible 70 children who turned up with their parents and completed parkrun in the aforementioned (not ideal) weather conditions!

GoodGymmers filled lots of volunteer positions today, including marshalls (particular kudos to Arthur W for being there in the freezing cold, and Amy W for giving up her scarf for Fergie), timekeepers (well done Griffs, especially for volunteering for a no-gloves job!), token support and tailwalkers.

Soon, the final child had passed the finish line and it was time to warm up (briefly for some who were soon heading to the next task).
