Report written by Bournemouth runner
This week we were helping Michael at the Secret Garden in Boscombe. The original Secret garden that has grown into the most amazing community garden thanks to Michael and his team and the community.
Michael wasn't feeling great but he still agreed to meet us and get us digging in.
Caprice managed to really bruise her ribs the day before so wasn't able to run with us but was determined to get stuck in. Sarah, did her usual duathlon of cycling and running. We did try to get her to fall into the pond and help her complete a sprint triathlon, but her balance is much improved from all the yoga she's doing. Laura kept us on our toes by canceling but then having had her plans change, coming down to help out.
And we needed all the able bodies we could get!!
They are building a new decking area and with the foundations in place, our task was to lower the level of the ground to allow the rest of the decking to be added.
With tools provided we started digging into the soil and filling as many bags of rubble as possible stopping chatting along and after about 45 minutes of hard graft, realised we had filled 25 bags of rubble in less than 45 minutes!!
That's very impressive and Michael and his team were very grateful.
We'll be back in a few weeks to help out some more. They have another site that needs a bit more TLC so stay tuned!!
We'll also be celebrating the GoodGym Bournemouth birthday on the 1st of September so be sure to keep that date free!
Well done everyone!!!
